This common sunflower (Helianthus annuus, also called sunflower, , annual sunflower, mirasol) was photographed from a closeup perspective while in the process of opening. It was taken in southwest Michigan in early August at a Sunflower Festival. Artistic edits were applied in Brushstroke.

I live in Southwest Michigan with my husband and three children, ages 11, 19, and 20. I enjoy taking photographs of flowers and other plants as well as landscapes during long walks around my neighborhood, on nature trails, or when I'm fortunate to be on vacation somewhere beautiful and interesting. Then, I have just as much fun during the editing phase of creating photographic art. When I'm not working as a psychologist, other pastimes include spending time with my family, writing, reading, and drawing. I am also an active member and volunteer in my church.
